03 · Story angles
Why Sofa Time is timely.
Digital memory
A watch history can represent years of a person’s life.
Sofa Time treats data portability as a product feature, not an afterthought, with rich migration tools and a stated goal of respecting users’ viewing history.
Independent software
One developer, more than a decade of continuity.
The product grew from a Spanish iOS utility into a cross-platform global community without losing the direct feedback loop of an indie app.
A legal pivot
The first TVSofa had to change before it could endure.
A 2014 change to Spain’s intellectual-property law led the developer to withdraw the original app and rebuild it without third-party viewing links.
Platform expansion
From Apple-only roots to a native Android app.
The Android release brought the same core philosophy to a new platform through a native Kotlin and Jetpack Compose client.
04 · Timeline
Twelve years of building around the way people watch.
The original TVSofa
Early coverage describes an iPhone and iPad app for finding films and series, following episodes, reading community opinions and opening third-party links through Series.ly. Developer-provided historical data shows that TVSofa reached No. 1 in the overall free-app chart in markets including Spain.
A voluntary withdrawal
Following Spain’s intellectual-property reform and Series.ly’s removal of unauthorized links, TVSofa announced it would leave the App Store and return without direct content links.
TVSofa 2
The successor focused on information, catalog management, reviews, cast and viewing progress rather than playback.
Learning through games
Ninja Boy Adventures, made with RockerApps, expanded The Clash Soft’s catalogue to iPhone, iPad and Apple TV with Game Center support.
Trailers Now
A focused movie-trailer app explored theatrical releases, favorites and push alerts—ideas that later became part of Sofa Time’s broader discovery system.
A modern rebuild
Development of the current codebase began in late 2019. A new TVSofa launched in January 2020 with tracking and legal streaming-provider discovery at its center.
TVSofa becomes Sofa Time
The broader name matched a product that had grown beyond television into movies, personal history, discovery, statistics, widgets and multiple sync services.
Android, community and rapid growth
Sofa Time launched natively on Android, expanded profiles and social features, and built richer import tools as former TV Time users looked for a new home. App Store surges placed Sofa Time among the leading free apps in several countries for days at a time, generating thousands of downloads in short periods.
